Prince is a 5 year old Cockapoo that was recently referred to our outpatient referral service with a firm mass on his neck which had been present on and off for 3 months.
They visited Dr Martin Hobbs for further investigations.

An Ultrasound was initially performed which failed to yield any evidence of fluid or foreign material within the mass, therefore Martin performed a CT scan on Prince’s neck.

Following specialist interpretation the CT report was highly suggestive of an abscess which had been caused by an underlying foreign material.  The referring veterinary surgeon had requested that we undertake any further treatment necessary.

On the day of surgery Martin surgically dissected the area and identified two tracts deep within the cervical muscle and close to the jugular vein.
One of the tracts was producing pus and a grass seed was identified within the other, this was successfully removed.

The surgical areas were closed and Prince had a smooth recovery, he was discharged home to his owners on the same day with a course of antibiotics and pain relief.

Martin saw Prince for a recheck 10 days post surgery and we are pleased to report Prince was signed off from further treatment.
