Important information re Covid-19 – Updated 20.8.20
We are delighted to announce that our hydrotherapy suite has re-opened. We are able to offer sessions with Becky on Monday, Thursday & Friday’s with occasional Saturday availability.
We have implemented a number of new protocols on how the appointment will be carried out, this is to protect our staff, our local communities and in order to maintain social distancing. To book your pet’s session please contact the Meopham Hospital on 01474 815333. We will request payment at the time of booking to allow for a contactless transaction.
Ahead of your booking Becky will endeavour to contact you in order to discuss your pet’s current physical health, concerns and in order to discuss the plan for the sessions. Rest assured if she has not contacted you then there will be the opportunity to discuss this at the time of your appointment.
On the day we request that at the time of your booking you knock on the rear hydrotherapy suite sliding doors (entrance can be seen from the car park at the rear of the building). Becky will open the door and you will be asked to secure your dog’s lead onto the ‘dog park’. We request you maintain 2m away from our team at all times and do not try to enter the building. You are very welcome to watch the session through the window or you may wait in your car in the car park.
We wish to take this opportunity to thank you for your support and we are looking forward to seeing our lovely visitors once again.
The hydrotherapy team.
North Kent Canine Hydrotherapy
Our hydrotherapy suite is run by a team of fully qualified hydrotherapists, our team are: Becky Heal, Amy Healey RVN and Vinny Karnovski. Becky has been working as a qualified hydrotherapist for 5 years and holds a certificate and diploma in hydrotherapy. Becky previously worked as an auxiliary veterinary nurse for many years. Amy, along with being a certificate holder is also a registered veterinary nurse, Vinny also holds a certificate in hydrotherapy and is a trainee veterinary nurse.
Our team’s nursing experience and knowledge, combined with their hydrotherapy qualifications allows them to individually plan each session to your pet’s specific requirements.
Hydrotherapy can benefit many conditions, a few of the most common conditions we help are:
- Pre and post-operative rehabilitation e.g. TPLO, Hip Replacement, Patella Luxation Surgery, Fracture Repair & Spinal Surgery.
- Hip & Elbow Dysplasia.
- Cruciate injuries.
- Spinal conditions.
- Degenerative myelopathy.
- For fun & fitness!
How can it help?
- Using the water buoyancy it helps to decrease pain and minimise the weight placed on the joints and muscles.
- Hydrostatic pressure within the water reduces oedema, general pain and soreness as well as decreasing swelling of post-operative areas.
- Increase sensory perception.
- Increase joint range of movement and progressing to increase muscle bulk, strength and tone.
- Prevent secondary complications as a result of gait abnormalities, limb disuse and muscle contracture.
Having the hydrotherapy facility on site at our Meopham Veterinary Hospital is hugely beneficial for client continuity as our patients no longer need to travel long distances for this complimentary therapy.
You do not need to be registered with any of our Veterinary sites to use our hydrotherapy services. We do however require your Veterinary Surgeon’s consent in order to provide these sessions for your pet. Please ask your Vet to complete the referral form below or alternatively, we can email this form to your Veterinary Surgeon. We are situated in North Kent and are easily accessible from both the M20 and the A2. Conveniently located on the A227 only 15 minutes from Gravesend, 25 minutes from Sevenoaks and 30 minutes from Maidstone.Hydrotherapy Referral Form
