Small Animal

Specialist and Expertise Services

Radiography

All of our surgeries have x-ray facilities.

We also offer a referral service to neighbouring veterinary practices for image reading.

Ultrasonography

The Ultrasonography service at Meopham Veterinary Hospital has been in operation since 1997 and has been accepting referrals from neighbouring practices since 2003. Ultrasound allows us to see inside the softer non bony parts of an animal’s body. It is routinely used to assess many medical conditions and potential surgical cases.

Ultrasound is used extensively alongside X-rays to diagnose many disease processes and then monitor response to treatment.

Pregnancy Diagnosis

The practice’s veterinary surgeons are experienced in carrying out ultrasound examinations for pregnancy diagnosis in dogs, cats and other small animals. This service is open to our registered clients and also those practices where suitable facilities or experience are not available. Should you wish your pet to be booked for a scan please contact our reception team or use the on-line facility.

Orthopaedic Surgery

The Meopham Hospital and The Sevenoaks surgery both have excellent surgical facilities and experienced orthopaedic surgeons, including a RCVS recognised small animal surgery certificate holder and access to a RCVS/European veterinary specialist in small animal surgery.

Soft Tissue Surgery

Martin Hobbs holds the RCVS certificate in small animal surgery. He is particularly interested in all aspects of soft tissue surgery. He is supported in this field by experienced colleagues at the surgery.

Physiotherapy

Animals, like people, respond to physiotherapy. We use a Chartered Physiotherapist, Steph Wilson, who visits the Meopham Hospital on a regular basis.

She gained a physiotherapy degree at Huddersfield University in 2003. She went on to work at her regional hospital in North Wales, eventually specialising in Orthopaedic and Musculoskeletal conditions. A move to London in 2007 enabled Steph to gain physiotherapy experience in the top NHS hospitals in the country and study at the Royal Veterinary College. In 2010 she completed her MSc in Veterinary Physiotherapy and begun practicing under more experienced physiotherapists in Kent and Essex before branching out independently.

Endoscopy

Endoscopy is a way of looking inside your animal using a small flexible tube that has a camera at the end. We can examine the insides of your pet and also get samples in a minimally invasive way. Endoscopy is painless, but does require general anaesthesia in our patients.

Ophthalmology

Martin Hobbs is a RCVS certificate holder in veterinary ophthalmology and accepts referrals in this field.

We have sophisticated ophthalmology equipment including:

  1. Direct ophthalmoscope
  2. In-direct ophthalmoscope
  3. Slit lamp
  4. Tonometer and ophthalmic surgical equipment.

Together with medical treatments for eye problems, minor surgery is also carried out here:

  • Entropion surgery
  • Third eyelid flap surgery
  • Tumour resection
  • Keratectomies
  • Eye enucleation

We accept referrals for the above procedures.  Please speak to one of our team today or email enquiries@meophamvets.co.uk
