Microchipping

All foals are now legally required to be microchipped, any horses without passports are legally required to get a passport and a microchip. This takes only a few seconds...and is relatively painless.

A microchip is a permanent identification feature. It is an electronic chip the size of a grain of rice. It is inserted into the nuchal ligament in the neck of a horse.

Unfortunately it is not uncommon for horses to be stolen or even just go missing. With microchipping some of these horses may be returned to their rightful owners.

The cost of £24.75 is a small price to pay for the return of your horse.

Lameness Assessment

Most horses will sadly suffer from lameness at some point in their active lives.

Lameness evaluations are challenging, complicated and time consuming. Therefore, we allow extra time for such visits to enable our vets to carry out a thorough step-by-step assessment.

If the cause of the lameness cannot be established by initial trot-up and clinical examination, our vets are competent to proceed with NERVE BLOCKS which may be carried out at the initial evaluation or at a second visit.

Once lameness has been isolated to a specific area, x-rays may be performed as necessary. This may be carried out on the day or on a separate occasion. Please see our section on x-rays (radiography).
